Me and a Metaphor:
An Essay on a Metaphor
Cassie Seidel

9/28/10
Essay #3

If you could describe yourself in a metaphor, what would you be? Would you be a tiger, or would you be a pen? There are many different items you can choose, but which one would describe you?

(TS) I would describe myself as a wall. (SD1) I am a very sturdy border between two spaces. (CM1)The spaces represent people in my life. (CM2) There are people at church whom lean on me like a stone. (CM3) There are also people at school who just treat me like another student, just like how I could be just another wall.(SD2) Without me, the rain outside would fall, and we would be drenched. (CM1) There are many people depending on me, and that is my purpose in life. (CM2) The ceiling is my mom and dad, whom I go to for advice.(SD3) Finally, I can be blown down by a hurricane, but I can always be rebuilt. (CM1)If I am having a rough time, I can look to others for advice to fix my problems, just like fixing a hole in the wall.(CM2) I can be torn down, but if I find someone important to me who will give me strength, that would fix my paint and plaster. (CS) I think a wall is an amazing object that reminds me, of me.

I describe myself as a wall, but I could also be a widow or a door. If I described myself as a window, I would say, "a  person could look right through me". If I was a door, I would say, "I keep myself shut to keep the secrets inside."I could be either of these items, but a wall suits me. What suits you?

Self Assessment

One thing I feel at I must work on is comma splices. I always have very silly little mistakes like that. I feel that I am good at making my writing flow. I also easily mess up spelling errors. Finally, I would give myself a B/B- because I probably have many stupid mistakes.

Strange Person

Essay #2

There are many ways to describe the word "strange". It could be a strange way to throw a basketball, it may be a strange way to talk. No matter how you describe it, there are many people who take this word, and make it a living.
(TS)There are many people in this world who could be called strange, but I know someone who loves to put this word to good use. (SD1)Her name is Mary, but everyone calls her Hawk Eye Mary, because she is oddly always watching our neighborhood. (CM1) If I look outside my bedroom window, I can see Hawk Eye standing on the porch. (CM2)If she is not on the porch, I can look closer and see her staring out her kitchen window. (SD2)When Hawk Eye is not on the porch or in the window, she is usually taking care of her garden. (CM1) Her garden is in her front lawn, so she can still watch what is going on. (CM2) What I also find weird is while she is watering her garden, she wears a huge hat and flowered gloves. (SD3) The final awkward thing that she does is talk to her dog. (CM1) I was walking by her house on day, and she got unusually mad at her dog. (CM2) Except instead of saying,"No, bad dog!" She said,"Oh you are a silly dog. Don't you know that you aren't supposed to do that, I taught you better than that." (CS) I have never seen a single person as strange as Hawk Eye Mary.
Although strange, she is a person, and people aren't perfect. I bet you have acted strangely in your lifetime. It is not bad to be strange. It helps us learn from our mistakes. Hawk Eye Mary is a person, and people are strange.

2nd Freestyle Writing

Look outside, what do you see? Birds chirping, dogs barking, the whistling of leaves blowing in the breeze, or do you see busy cars honking at oncoming traffic and a couple fighting next door? All of these things are what life is all about. We learn to live with the cars rushing by, and a loon bellowing out the window. We can love the good things in life as well. Taking a dive in an ice cold pond, sleeping under the stars, and laughing with a good friend. Love these moments, cherish these moments, because they don't come that often.

Keep Holding On;
An Essay about Going Back to School
Cassie Seidel

Essay #1

It's that time of year again. School is here, and that means getting up early, doing hours of homework every night, and worst of all, being without a phone for more than 3 minutes. I don't mind all of these problems, because there is a song I listen to every time the going gets rough.
(TS)The song Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne helps me make it through the school year. (SD) The lyrics,"'cause you know I'll make it through" helps me realize that school always comes too fast. (CM1) Unfortunately, the summer has been cut short, like getting the smallest piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. (CM2) I'm happy to think, I'm not alone, because everyone goes back to school. (SD2) Many people say "there's nothing you can say, there's nothing you can do," when going back to school. (CM1) If you are someone who is disappointed about going back to school, and I am one of them, don't worry. (CM2) There is nothing we can do about it, so we must relax and keep focused. (SD3) Since "nothings [going] to change destiny", I know school will help me look forward to other activities in the future. (CM1) Without school, we wouldn't need breaks like summer. (CM2) We also wouldn't look forward to vacations, because if there was no school, every day would be like vacation.  (CS) If you keep believing, I know we will be alright in school.
School is back, but I'm still standing, because his song helps me feel accomplished. For example, after a long night of studying i feel confident that i will get a good grade. This song has helped me throughout my years in school, and it still helps today.

 Self Assessment

I sometimes have problems with writing commentary, and my main goal this year is to complete commentary successfully without copying the supporting detail. I feel that I am good at creating metaphors and similes successfully. I very easily mess up my punctuation, even after looking over the essay a million times. I believe that my grade is a B+/B because I easily make stupid mistakes even after checking my essay many times.

Freestyle Writing

Sitting, and getting crazier after each second. I'm so angry. I was never this furious before. It was just one drink. Just one fight, just one life. To think, its only been a minute of the rest of my life in this concrete hole.  It was just one small, invisible person. I was doing them a favor. The world doesn't need nobodies like him. A drinker has no life. This is how they repay me. With heartfelt handcuffs and guns. Guns, I hate guns. Death, its better than here. Just sitting.
